When a driver is pulled over by a law enforcement agent for suspected drunk driving, they must submit to a chemical test. One type of chemical test that they may choose is a blood test, which is many times considered to be the most accurate type of chemical test that can be performed. A blood test allows there to be evidence (blood sample) which can be re-examined at a later date, as compared to a breathalyzer test which cannot be re-examined if there are any discrepancies.

It is important that all blood tests be performed by qualified individuals who have experience drawing blood and evaluating test results. There are many cases in which blood tests are inaccurate, sometimes due to contaminated medical equipment, poorly trained blood drawers, or improper storage or transportation of the blood. These and other factors are taken into consideration when devising a client's defense.
